Sembunyi Amukan Azazil (Hide: Fury of Azazil) is a 2013 Malaysian fantasy horror thriller film directed by Kabir Bhatia and starring Diana Danielle, Remy Ishak, Umie Aida, and Sharnaaz Ahmad. The film tells the story of Aishah, a young woman who wakes up in a mysterious village during the Japanese occupation of Malaya and discovers that the villagers are hiding a dark secret involving a demon called Azazil.

Plot




Aishah (Diana Danielle) is a Malay girl who works as a nurse in a hospital. During the Japanese invasion of Malaya, she is knocked unconscious as she attempts to escape from the invading Japanese soldiers. She wakes up in a strange silent town which seems to be unaffected by the war. The townsmen provide her with shelter and she starts a new life there. She meets Kamal (Remy Ishak), a handsome young man who works as a teacher, and falls in love with him.


However, soon she realizes that there are other secrets being concealed by the town, such as a mysterious devil woods outside the town, and a demon called Azazil that preys on the villagers. Aishah is haunted by the presence of a young deformed girl whom she later learns is Ummi (Kismah Johar), the daughter of Ibu Yani (Umie Aida), the town's midwife. Ummi was born with a curse that makes her attract Azazil's attention. Aishah also learns that Kamal is actually Ibu Yani's son and Ummi's brother, and that he has been hiding his true identity from her.


Aishah decides to help Ummi and Ibu Yani escape from the town and from Azazil's wrath. However, she faces resistance from the town's leader, Salleh (Shukri Yahaya), who believes that sacrificing Ummi to Azazil is the only way to protect the town from the war and from other evils. Aishah also discovers that Kamal has been secretly working with Salleh to keep Ummi in the town, and that he has betrayed her trust. Aishah must fight for her life and her love as she confronts the truth about the town and its inhabitants.


Reception




The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences. Some praised the film for its originality, suspense, and cinematography, while others criticized it for its lack of coherence, logic, and character development. The film won one award and received eight nominations at the 26th Malaysia Film Festival. The film also sparked some controversy for its depiction of Islam and Malay culture. The film was rated R for violence, horror, and some sexual content.
